This
is the Newsletter of the ECMI NGO Network
for the Improvement of the Interethnic Relations in the Republic of
Macedonia
. This Network is a result of a joint initiative between the
European Centre
for Minority Issues (ECMI)
,
in Flensburg , Germany and members of this Network. This Network will
enhance the co-operation of the member NGOs towards the development and
improvement of interethnic tolerance, respect for differences and dialogue
among all those living in the Republic of Macedonia . In particular,
this NGO Network aims to strengthen the capacities of the participating
NGOs to generate joint projects and other initiatives with a strong
interethnic dimension and to implement such initiatives.

1. Promotion of mutual
cooperation through exchange of all available resources. 2. Initiation
and implementation of joint projects. 3. Increasing the influence of
NGOs in the community. 4. Creation and development of a joint strategy
for the improvement of interethnic relations. 5. Expansion of the
network.

NGO Network
General Assembly
The ECMI NGO Network for the Improvement of Interethnic Relations in
the Republic of Macedonia held its 4 th General Assembly at the Hotel
“Holiday Inn”. At the General Assembly where 72 NGO members of the Network
were present, ECMI officially announced the conclusion of the project ECMI
NGO Network.
As a product of the three years networking, three different models of
networking have been introduced: the Regional NGO Coalitions which will
primarily operate at the local and regional level; the independent
national NGO network which will operate with a new mission focusing on
economic development through participation, integration and equal
opportunities; and the sector based networks. (an environmental network, a
youth multicultural initiatives network, an educational network and a
working group for minority issues).

ECMI Regional NGO Resource Centre Bitola
“Theatre workshops for human rights”
60 youths, 6
to 14 years old from Kanatlarci-Bitola, Resen and Ohrid were part of the
“Theatre workshops for human rights”, organized by the NGO Media Artes in
partnership with the Cultural and Humanitarian Association of Turks "CHELEBIA".
The aim of this series of interactive, educational performances and
workshops is to inform young people on human rights issues focusing on
children’s rights and minority rights. At the same time, involving
children from different ethnic background will contribute towards
decreasing the prejudice and improvement of the interethnic relations.

“Mosaic of the Bosniak culture ”
The “ Mosaic of the Bosniak culture ” event, held at the premises of the
Cultural Center of the Bosniaks in Macedonia is aimed to bring together
people with different ethnic background to learn more about each other
through presentation of the cultural characteristics.
The event included: art exhibition by Dr. Fehim Huskovich, speech by Dr.
Ferid Muhich, traditional Bosniaks dances and songs, Macedonian dances and
songs, presentation of the traditional Bosniaks food and women clothes.
Apart from the NGO members of the Regional Centre Skopje, the event was
visited by the citizens, representatives from the local government and the
business sector.

Meeting of the Coordinative Body
ECMI regional Office Skopje
Coordinative
Body of the ECMI NGO Network held a meeting at the premises of the
Regional Office Skopje in order to conclude the preparations for the 4th
General Assembly of the ECMI NGO Network. The orderliness of the General
Assembly was discussed in details as well as some technical issues for the
event.

Theatre Play “From the other side”
In order to raise the awareness for the everyday challenges of the people
with special needs, a theatre play “From the other side” was performed on
the stage in Tetovo primary school “Liria”.
Over 300 pupils were present at the premier performance of this theatre
play, directed by Senat Abduli. This play is aimed to instigate
self-analyses about our perspective and treatment of the people with
special needs.
This initiative was supported by the ECMI through NGO Handicap, member of
the ECMI NGO Network.

Informative Centre
Inspired by the International day of people with special needs an
Informative Centar was opened in Tetovo, aimed to inform the people with
special needs about their legal rights and to assist them in realizing
this right.
The Informative Centre is part of the project “We, like everyone else”,
supported by the Share-see and implemented in cooperation between the
Association of parents of the children with special needs and NGO Golden
hand, member of the NGO Network.

Home visits
The families of the disabled people from
the villages Vratnica, Toplica, Vratovce, Dobridol, Balindol, Negotino,
Senokos, Beloviste, Lakavica, Kaliste, Dzurdzevishte and Lomnica finally
have a professional assistance in meeting the every day challenges. The
Home visits, organized by the Humanitarian Organization “UNITETI” during
this month are aimed to assist the families of the disabled people from
Gostivar area through health education on few themes:
psychological-pedagogical education, socialization, health and medical
advices etc.

Meeting of the Coordinative Body
Meeting of the Coordinative Body of the ECMI NGO Network was held at
the premises of the Regional Office Skopje. On the agenda was the
evolution of the past activities of the Coordinative Body and the
Commission for strategic planning. Also, the future strategic directions
of the NGO Network were discussed as well its possible structural forms.
Furthermore, the Agenda of the concluding General Assembly of the ECMI NGO
Network was discussed.

Training for Strategic planning
A three days Strategic Planning training for the members of the Regional
Centre Kumanovo was held at the hotel "Centobiznis" , Vinica. The outcome
of this training is the outlined strategic plan which will be frame for
defining the program and financial plans in the following 3 years and
identified tools for sustainability. Facilitators on the training were
Zvonko Naumoski and Goran Arsov. Except the NGO members, present on the
training were Mr. Zoran Petrushevski, representative of the local
government, Mr. Dragan Janevic, local-media and Ms. Jasmina Todorovska and
Ms. Aneta Jordanovska.

Stop the drug
Whit an aim to raise the awareness of the Tetovo young people for the
consequences of drug use and to promote the sport and culture as a leisure
activities, the NGO Multikultura has implemented a 4 mounts initiative
"Stop the drug". The Forum of Albanian Women and the NGO Happy Life were
implementing partners in this initiative. As part of this initiative two
open forums were held with sociologist and psychologist, three TV
presentations on the local media were organized, a basketball turner
between the high school students and concerts with rock and pop groups
from Tetovo.

Days of the Albanian Alphabet
At the same building where in 1908 the congress for establishing the
Albanian alphabet took place, the Association of the Albanian woman,
Bitola branch in partnership whit the Macedonian – Croatian Association
“Marko Marulić”, hosted a celebrat ion for the days of the Albanian
alphabet. As part of this event, a literature reading in Albanian and
Macedonian language was organized, Dr. Reshat Medzipi, history expert made
a presentation on the main issues before and after the congress, and
Zdravka Maretic, "Institute, Museum and Gallery" presented the
ethnological, anthropological and cultural facts about the Albanians
through the centuries. The visitors: citizens, representatives of NGO’s,
local government and Media also had a possibility to enjoy the exhibition
of original photos by Albert Kan. The event was complete whit a small
cocktail.

Literary
Club “Iskra”
Presentation of the Almanac
As a result of thirty years active work, the Literary Club “Iskra”,
member of the ECMI NGO Network, promoted its Almanac No. 24/25 at the
“Goce Delchev” library Shtip.The Almanac No. 24/25 holds poetry and prose
from 22 Authors, members of the Literary Club “Iskra”. Part of them read
excerpts from the book during the presentation where more then 70 citizens
and members of the Club attended. This event was concluded with handing
over free samples of the Almanac to the visitors and a small cocktail

Youth Cultural Centre
Celebration
To celebrate the Americas’ recognition of Macedonia’s constitutional
name, a huge party was organized on Shirok Sokak, Bitola by the Youth
Cultural Centre, member of the ECMI NGO Network. A lot of pop and rock
groups, singers and assembles from the whole country took part, as well as
the Bitola choir “Stiv Naumov” who sang the Macedonian and American
anthems. Several local businessmen contributed to the celebration with
free drinks and products
